Canadian Privacy Rights
Under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and other relevant provincial laws, Canadian residents are entitled to specific rights concerning their personal information that differ from or complement standard United States privacy rights. These rights include:
-
Right to Access: Canadian residents have the right to know what personal information an organization holds about them and to whom it has been disclosed. This includes obtaining copies of their personal data upon request, subject to reasonable exceptions (e.g., legal restrictions).
-
Right to Withdraw Consent: Canadians have the right to withdraw consent for the processing of their personal data at any time, provided there are no legal or contractual restrictions preventing this. E-commerce sites must provide an easy way for users to manage their preferences.
-
Right to Challenge Accuracy: Canadian residents have the right to request corrections to any inaccuracies or incompleteness in their personal information held by an organization. E-commerce businesses must respond to such requests promptly and make the necessary updates.
-
Right to Privacy of Data Transfers: Under PIPEDA, we must notify you that personal information related to general customer information, product fulfillment & shipping, payment processing, etc. may be shared across international borders to our US entity in order to completely and accurately service our Canadian customers.
-
Right to File Complaints: Canadian residents have the right to file complaints with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if they believe their privacy rights have been violated.
